Who is Zekki?

Tim Zekki was born and raised in Cyprus but has lived and worked in the UK for 35 years. He has a passion for local and seasonal ingredients, sourcing sustainable produce and items that he forages in Somerset woodlands and along the coast.

Tim’s menus reflect his travels across the world and the food he loves. ‘My passion,’ he says, ‘is to combine simple ingredients - with some elaborate sauces - and my aim being nothing more than to delight the palate.’ In addition to the à la carte selection of sharing dishes, Tim offers a set, fixed-price multi-course menu once a month.

A self-taught chef he worked in a number of restaurants in and around London and ran the Lop-Eared Pig in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, and a deli, Syon, in Isleworth, West London. In 2016 he launched a supper club - Duende (a Spanish expression for soul and passion) - at The Temperance Hall in Chesham. Then in 2018 he moved to Wiveliscombe and opened Duende restaurant on the High Street.

In April 2024, after a major refurb, Tim re-launched the restaurant with a new name, Zekki. With deep red burgundy curtains, white tablecloths, paintings of food on the walls and a new bar Zekki has the feel of a cosy Parisian bistro.

Local produce includes lamb and beef from Wonky Horn just outside Wiveliscombe, from the town’s local butchers, Thorne’s, and vegetables and salad sourced from nearby Wagtail Farm and Ray’s Veg at Halse.
